Mark Legan is a first-generation farmer from Coatesville, Indiana, who, along with his wife Phyllis, daughter Beth, and son-in-law Nick, operates Legan Livestock and Grain, Inc. Their farm includes a farrow-finish swine enterprise and the production of corn and soybeans. Mark is an Indiana Soybean Alliance (ISA) board member and serves as District 3 Director, bringing over 25 years of leadership experience to initiatives that drive sustainable and profitable farming practices.
Committed to conservation, Mark employs no-till and cover crop techniques to improve soil health and water quality, reflecting the core values his family has established for the farm: integrity, relationships, stewardship, and continuous improvement. The farm also participates in the annual sustainability analysis with the National Pork Board, using data to benchmark practices and quantify their environmental impact. This past year Mark expanded conservation efforts by utilizing drone seeding and adjusting pesticide usage for improved sustainability.
Mark has held leadership positions on the Indiana Pork and National Pork Producers Council boards addressing critical issues like trade, animal welfare, and the environment. Mark currently represents US soybean producers on the Executive Committee of the US Meat Export Federation. His work with ISA includes promoting U.S. soybean exports, encouraging innovations and industry sustainability.
